former UWW student interviews president Mikhail Gorbachev

UMass Amherst UWW is host to many talented students including celebrities, CEO’s and successful writers. Recently, Lena Nelson, one of the professional writers that attended UMass Amherst UWW contacted us regarding her article entitled, Mikhail Gorbachev reflects on America’s youngest ambassador, Samantha Smith for Bangor Daily News. Lena got to interview Mikhail Gorbachev, former President of the Soviet Union, about the nuclear arms race and American peace activist, 10 year old Samantha Smith. In the article, Lena reflects on what it was like growing up during the 1980’s and her childhood hero Samantha Smith. Lena Nelson’s advisor was Connie Griffin. Her concentration was International Studies.
