josé delgado, advising & recruitment

José Delgado joined UWW in the summer of 2014 as the Pre-admissions Advisor and Recruitment Coordinator, working out of the UMass Center in Springfield, MA. He conducts outreach throughout the Greater Springfield area, works with area organizations, community colleges and businesses, and provides pre-admissions advising to prospective students.

Born and raised in Springfield, Jose is a first generation college student who understands the importance of a college education as it has opened up many doors for him that were never available to his parents. His mother was a single mother of five children who dropped out of middle school. He’s seen firsthand the difficulties many individuals face trying to get an education while working full time and raising a family. He believes education is a fundamental right that should be available to all.

Prior to joining UWW, he worked for four years as a Mayoral Aide for the Office of Springfield Mayor Domenic J. Sarno. In this capacity he developed and managed numerous projects, while representing the Mayor at a wide range of neighborhood, business and government events. Jose also forged strong community relationships while providing constituent services to residents and business owners. Previous to working for the Mayor, he worked with at risk youth in Springfield as a Crew Supervisor at Roca, Inc. and was a Springfield Field Operations Supervisor for the United States Census Bureau. He served as an AmeriCorp VISTA volunteer and Program Coordinator for the Massachusetts Latino Chamber of Commerce. Currently, he is a member of the Young Professional Society of Greater Springfield and the Springfield Puerto Rican Leadership Council. He lives in Springfield with his wife and child.
