cara newton, academic advising

Cara joined UWW at the beginning of 2017 as an academic advisor. In this role, Cara supports students in reaching their academic goals by providing guidance on processes and policies, as well as appropriate counsel and referrals, communicating regularly on topics effecting progression towards graduation.

Cara worked in retail for nine years before beginning her higher education career at Granite State College in NH. There, she worked first as a Student Information Center Representative and an Admissions Coach before settling in as Senior Academic Advisor.

When Cara began working with non-traditional students five years ago, she quickly realized her passion for helping students achieve their personal and academic goals. Though she attended college as a “traditionally-aged” student, Cara’s educational journey was non-traditional – she was a commuter student who took evening classes and worked full-time to put herself through school, juggling both personal and academic obligations.

This experience helps her relate to the students she works with as an advisor. She finds the drive students have to succeed inspirational, and enjoys providing individualized support to help student achieve their educational dreams.
