University Without Walls Jeff Taylor Educational Opportunity Endowment
The University of Massachusetts Amherst’s University Without Walls Program was founded on the ideal that higher education should be accessible to a broad spectrum of students. For over 37 years this commitment has made it possible for non-traditional working adults to attend a major public research university while continuing to hold jobs, raise families, and contribute to their communities. The program has been a door to the vast resources of the University of Massachusetts Amherst for extraordinarily diverse learners.
Recognizing the need to ensure that a University of Massachusetts Amherst degree is achievable for the widest and most diverse population, the University Without Walls has made a commitment to expand the capacity and opportunities for non-traditional students. Under the leadership of Outreach Development Director, myself, and a dedicated team of UWW alumni, we have planned the first University of Massachusetts Amherst University Without Walls Jeff Taylor Educational Opportunity Endowment . This $350,000 campaign was launched in celebration of the University Without Walls’ 35th anniversary on June 16, 2007, with a very generous gift of $75,000 from Jeff Taylor '01. The scholarships and program funds generated from this endowment will help keep UWW accessible to diverse students well into the future.
Our success in delivering on this commitment requires a strong investment from our alumni and other philanthropic partners. While the University Without Walls is one of the great strengths of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, our ability to maintain UWW as an accessible and nationally preeminent program requires a sustained investment in increased educational opportunities for non-traditional learners.
