THE UNIVERSITY STAFF ASSOCIATION LISTSERV
(last updated: March 2007)
The union leadership developed this listserv to keep you informed of union related matters on and off campus, as well as to foster discussion among members over labor related issues.
The leadership of USA sincerely hopes that unit members will use this listserv to discuss the important issues that we face in the workplace today.
To subscribe, unsubscribe, or to contact the list administrator please do so at the Listserv webpage (https://list.umass.edu/mailman/listinfo/usa-unitmem) or by contacting the Listserv administrator - Dave Litterer, at “usa-unitmem-request@external.umass.edu” or “litterer@admin.umass.edu”
To post a message to the list, send an e-mail to: usa-unitmem@external.umass.edu
You may receive the list in “DIGEST” form if you wish. A digest means you receive one message at the end of the day consisting of all of the messages sent that day. If you want to be in digest mode, please make a request to the listserv administrator at litterer@admin.umass.edu.
The list is closed to anyone who is not a member of the list (i.e. they can’t post to it, and we won’t get any SPAM.)
Lastly, please think about the following rules before you post your message. They will be strictly enforced.
All listserv members must adhere to the following rules:
1. Membership in the listserv is open to dues paying members of the University Staff Association. Those employees who pay an agency fee will not be included on the listserv.
2. All messages and postings must be labor, workplace, or union related
3. All messages and postings must be written in a civil tone. Inflammatory or defamatory language or personal attacks will not be tolerated.
4. Private or confidential information may not be put on the listserv.
5. You may not forward any message without the original sender's permission or consent.
6. No solicitation of any kind can be posted on the listserv.
Any allegations that these rules have been violated shall be forwarded to the listserv administrator. Violations will be subject to the following procedures. Please note that particularly severe violations will be dealt with individually as determined by the USA Judiciary and could result in more severe sanctions. For example, a second violation could result in temporary suspension from the listserv.
1st violation: E-mailed warning sent privately by the listserv administrator to transgressor stating the rule violated and the nature of the violation with a reminder of rules and sanctions about further transgressions. This may be followed by a reminder/announcement of the rules from the list administrator to the full list.
Subsequent or particularly severe violations will be immediately forwarded to the USA Judiciary to be dealt with pursuant to Article 8C of the USA constitution.
HOW A LISTSERV WORKS AT UMASS
A listserv is a very long list of e-mail addresses entered in alphabetical order on a file. The list is given an address much like our own UMass e-mail addresses. The difference is that when you send a message to the list, the UMass server sends the message to all recipients on that list. It's not much different than just sending an e-mail to an individual.
A few points to remember:
· USA will not add anyone without their permission.
· If you e-mail address changes, you must notify the list administrator.
· If mail comes back to us, you will eventually be automatically removed from the list by the listserv software. Messages can start to bounce if you allow your emailbox to become full for an extended period.
· All users should realize that if they reply to something posted, their reply will go to ALL listserv members. If you wish to reply to only the sender of a particular message or posting, please reply to that person directly, rather than the entire list.
· If you would like to be removed from the list, contact the list administrator. Please do not send your message to be removed to the list or to an individual who has posted a message.
· Please consider the DIGEST option if you don’t want to get a lot of messages during a major listserv conversation. This will bundle up all messages and send them to you in a single longer message.
· Listserv website is at “https://list.umass.edu/mailman/listinfo/usa-unitmem”. Go there to subscribe, unsubscribe, switch to digest mode, change your email address, etc. Contact listserv administrator at “usa-unitmem-request@external.umass.edu”
