Stormproofing Your Community Conference May 24, 2001
This one-day conference is designed for Arborists, Tree Wardens, Municipal Managers, City Planners, and Landscape Architects who are involved in the management of property, both private and municipal. The theme for the conference is 'STORM PROOFING YOUR COMMUNITY'. The emphasis will be on how to prevent storm damage to trees and grounds before the storm hits. Topics include identification of hazard trees before the storm, streetscape design, planning for insect and disease after the storm, storm waste management, reducing storm problems by putting the right tree in the right place and review of an emerging tree manual. Speakers from the University of Massachusetts, the USDA Forest Service and James Urban, American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) will be on the agenda. This annual conference is co-sponsored by the USDA Service, Northeast Center for Urban and Community Forestry, UMass Extension and the Maine Forest Service, Vermont Dept. of Forests, Parks and Recreation, New Hampshire Divison of Forests and Lands, and New York.
