Top Banner

What the banner does

All UMass Amherst web pages, other than personal web pages and sites created through Blogs at UMass Amherst must include the standard top-banner strip, like the strip at the top of this page and in the example here:

This banner:

  • Brands your page as part of UMass Amherst
  • Links your page to the UMass home page
  • Provides access to the site search

The banner must be displayed with white text on maroon background.

Please Note: As of September 1, 2013, only the maroon background should be used for the top banner.  Black and gray background colors are no long valid options for the top banner.

How to add the banner to your website:

  • If your site is in Drupal and provisioned by OIT, it will have the top banner already installed.
  • If your site is in flat HTML, you can add the top banner using the code below.

<!-- Begin UMass Amherst top banner -->

<div style="background-color: #881c1c;
text-align: right; padding: 8px 15px 8px 15px;" id="topbanner">

<a href=""><img width="146" height="22"
style="float: left; width: 146px; border: 0;" alt="UMass Amherst"
<form style="margin: 0; padding: 0"
onsubmit="if (this.q.value=='Search UMass Amherst')
return false;" name="gs"
method="get" action="">
