Dr. King directs and teaches in the Primary Care Family Nurse Practitioner Program at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She has doctoral preparation in Counseling and Consulting Psychology and is a master's prepared Clinical Nurse Specialist in Child and Adolescent Health. Her area of expertise is women's and children's health, with a particular focus on school health and issues of violence and abuse. She has completed a three year federal fellowship in School Health sponsored by the University of Colorado's School of Nursing. She has a record of continuing education activities with school nurses, consults with the City of Springfield School Nurses, and in collaboration with Drs. Millette and Ryan has a federal grant for the operation of a school based health center at Putnam Vocational High School, Springfield, MA. This grant is designed to establish and operate a school based health center, serve as a training site for City of Springfield school nurses, and provide continuing education for city school personnel on adolescent health. She is also the founding member of the National Nursing Network on Violence Against Women. In her capacity as Program Director, Dr. King is responsible for direction and administration of the School Health Institute in Central and Western Massachusetts.

Dr. Rissmiller serves on the faculty at Simmons College and coordinates the Parent-Child Primary Health Care Nursing Program which includes OB-GYN, School Health Nurse Practitioner, and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner concentrations. Her area of expertise is Maternal and Child Health with particular emphasis on management of care of special needs children. Dr. Rissmiller is experienced in directing interdisciplinary programs. She directs the UMass-Simmons School Health Institute activities in the Eastern region (Boston) of the Commonwealth. Dr. Rissmiller is a graduate of Boston University.

Dr. Ryan teaches at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Her area of expertise is pathophysiology and adult and women's health, with a clinical focus on school violence and violence against women. Dr. Ryan teaches pathophysiology in the undergraduate and graduate programs. She has also completed the Project SHARE Fellowship in collaboration with Drs. King and Millette, and has provided continuing education for school nurses and consults with school nurses in the City of Springfield. She administers a federal grant for the operation of a school based health center at Putnam Vocational High School, Springfield, MA. Dr. Ryan is responsible for direction and administration of the School Health Institute in Central and Western Massachusetts. She is a graduate of Boston University.

Advisers

Anne Sheetz, MPH, RN, Director, School Health Unit, MDPH serves as consultant and adviser to the Institute. She received her BSN from Cornell University, an MPH from the University of Michigan, and obtained a graduate certificate in Management from Harvard University. Anne is certified by the American Nursing Association in Advanced Nursing Administration and was a Johnson and Johnson/Wharton Nurse Executive Fellow in 1984. Her experience includes Chairman of Pediatric Nursing at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston for 15 years. Prior to that she was a visiting nurse in Southeast Bronx. In 1986 she joined the Massachsuetts Department of Public Health to develop the hospital regulations governing maternity and newborn care. Since 1990 she has been the Director of the School Health Unit at MDPH. Anne works with the School Health Unit staff to set standards for school health, revise regulations, promote continuing education for school health personnel, establish data systems, develop new models of school health care delivery, and explore reimbursement systems for this specialty area.
