Darraj Shortlisted for Palestine Book Award


Susan Muaddi Darraj's A Curious Land: Stories from Home has been shortlisted for the 2016 Palestine Book Award!

The award, now in its fifth year, is an annual project that honors and celebrates books in English about Palestine. 

The shortlist winners selected by the judges have truly added to the diverse selection of submissions this year, adding to the mix of genres forwarding the Palestinian narrative.

The 2016 shortlisted authors are:

  • A Curious Land, Susan Muaddi Darraj, published by University of Massachusetts Press
  • Being Palestinian: Personal Reflections on Palestinian Identity in the Diaspora, Yasir Suleiman, published by Edinburgh University Press
  • Imperial perceptions of Palestine: British influence and power in late Ottoman times, Lorenzo Kamel, published by I.b.tauris
  • I Remember My Name, Ramzy Baroud, Samah Sabawi and Jehan Bseiso, published by Novum Publishing
  • Men of Capital, Sherene Seikaly, published by Stanford University Press
  • Palestinians in Syria: Nakba Memories of Shattered Communities, Anaheed Al-Hardan, published by Columbia University Press

The judges this year are:

  • Haifa Zangana – Author and journalist
  • Alan Waddams – MAP Chairman 
  • Marjorie Mayo – Emeritus Professor
  • Dr Faysal Mikdadi - Author
  • Judith Laurance- Writer

The winners will be announced on the evening of the Awards dinner, which will be held on Friday, 18 November, at the Hilton London Paddington Hotel.
