Announcing the winners of the 2009 Juniper Prizes

Juniper Prize for Poetry

The University of Massachusetts Press is pleased to announce that Diane Seuss of Kalamazoo, Michigan, has won the 2009 Juniper Prize for Poetry. Her collection, titled Wolf Lake, White Gown Blown Open, will be published in 2010. Seuss is Writer-in-Residence at Kalamazoo College. Her first poetry collection, It Blows You Hollow, was published in 1998 by New Issues Press. Her poems have been published in several anthologies and in many literary magazines, including the North American Review, Indiana Review, Cimarron Review, and The Georgia Review.

The finalists for this year’s Juniper Prize for Poetry include Dreaming Face, Man Down by Mark Conway of Avon, Minnesota; Last Nails in the Coffin by Sue Owen of Cambridge, Massachusetts; Door Beneath the House by Chad Sweeney of Kalamazoo, Michigan; and Triage by Jane Elkington Wohl of Sheridan, Wyoming.

Juniper Prize for Fiction

The University of Massachusetts Press is pleased to announce that Greg Mulcahy of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, has won the 2009 Juniper Prize for Fiction. His story collection, titled Carbine, will be published in 2010. Mulcahy’s previous story collection, Out Of Work, was published by Knopf in 1993 and his novel, Constellation, by Avisson in 1996. He serves as president of the Minnesota State College Faculty.

One finalist was named for this year’s Juniper Prize for Fiction: How to Stop Loving Someone by Joan Connor of Athens, Ohio.
