Communications and Statistics Manager

The University of Massachusetts/Amherst invites applicants for the position of Communications and Statistics Manager. The Communications and Statistics Manager will report to the Deputy Chief of Operations and function as a civilian member of the University of Massachusetts Amherst Police Department Command Staff. The manager will be responsible for the management, control, supervision, and efficiency and effectiveness of the Communications Center, for providing timely and accurate information and crime mapping for action at command staff meetings and completion of the Annual Security Report (ASR-Clery) in compliance with federally mandated requirements. The individual appointed to this position supervises 12 Communications Dispatchers.


Qualifications: Bachelor degree in criminal justice or related field (or equivalent combination of related education and training) and five years’ experience in the field of law enforcement with at least three of those years as a supervisor
1. Comprehensive knowledge of theories, principles, techniques, and practices of public safety communications to include Computer Aided Dispatching. Working knowledge of public safety operations.
2. Experience in conducting crime analysis functions to include preparation of statistical reports, crime maps, and analytical charts or graphs which display crime patterns and public safety incidents.
3. Must possess experience and ability to effectively lead and direct personnel under stressful situations; ability to coordinate and concentrate skills to perform differing tasks simultaneously; and ability to work independently and as part of a group effort.
4. Must be able to successfully complete background investigation.
5. Knowledge and experience in COMPSTAT, GIS mapping software applications, and Clery Reporting preferred.

Hiring Salary: $48,800-$61,200; Normal Starting Salary: $48,800-$55,000
