Diversity in Policing
The UMPD serves the UMass Amherst population as well as the residents of the surrounding communities. The make-up of this population is very diverse, both ethnically and philosophically. Policing a population with such a diverse make-up provides a work environment that is both challenging and rewarding.
We at UMPD strongly believe that having a pool of applicants that reflects the diversity of our population will ultimately allow us to better serve our community. As such, we strongly encourage people of all ethnicities, who have an interest in law enforcement as a career, to apply for a position within our department.
The UMass Amherst Police Department will periodically hold a selection process for new police officer candidates. Check back on this web site for any updates on when the next hiring process will begin.
