Child Passenger Safety (CPS)
The CDC reports that motor vehicle injuries are the leading cause of death among children in the United States. Many of these injuries can be prevented by placing children in properly installed car seats or boosters. In response this, UMPD has trained numerous officers, through the Safekids organization, as car seat technicians. UMPD has one CPS instructor and four CPS technicians on staff to inspect and install your child passenger seat. These individuals are available from 7:00 am – 11:00 pm daily by appointment. The service is free. We are also available for questions at any time.
The department has been providing this service since 1998. If you are interested in having your seat checked or installed please call (413) 545-0196 or email jer@admin.umass.edu and leave a message for the C.P.S. Staff.
