The Power of Public Policy to Shape and Direct Care: The Legacy of Evelyn Coke
Evelyn Coke, a home care worker for 20 years, took her employer to court because they paid her below minimum wage and denied her ovetime pay. The case went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, which ruled in 2007 that Evelyn's employer had done nothing wrong.
Leonila Vega, Executive Director of the national Direct Care Alliance, will talk about the case and the politics surrounding attempts to improve the conditions for home care workers in the United States.
This talk is open to the public and co-sponsored by the Political Economy Research Institute, the Center for Public Policy and Administration, and the Labor Center.
