U.S. Senate Candidates' Forum

The League of Women Voters of Massachusetts and public radio stations WFCR and WNNZ are pleased to present a forum for candidates running for the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by the death of Edward M. Kennedy.

The following candidates who will appear on the December 8 primary ballot have agreed to participate in the forum: Democrats U.S. Rep. Michael E. Capuano, Boston Celtics co-owner Stephen Pagliuca, and Alan Khazei, a co-founder of City Year. Republicans State Sen. Scott Brown and Jack E. Robinson. Attorney General Martha Coakley (Democrat) has not committed due to a schedule conflict.

Bob Paquette, local host of “Morning Edition” on WFCR, will moderate the forum. Half of the two-hour event will be devoted to questions on domestic issues and half to questions on international issues. Paquette will ask the questions, which are being submitted by students as well as league members around the state. Click here to submit a question for the candidates.

An opportunity to register to vote will be available beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Bowker Auditorium. Parking for the forum is available in the Campus Center Parking Garage.

“The upcoming special U.S. Senate election is of critical importance to the citizens of Massachusetts, and the league hopes that all of the candidates in the primary contests will participate in the candidates night,” said Zaxaro Bennett, president of the Massachusetts League of Women Voters.

The league plans a second candidates forum in January before the general election on January 19.

The league is a nonpartisan political organization, which encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government and works to increase understanding of major public policy issues.
