Luncheon: Black Roses
Black Roses, an event presented by the illustrious ladies of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated, will honor and recognize students and faculty that have contributed to the growth and progression of the ALANA community at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
A Black Rose recipient consists of a faculty member, administrator, or student who has displayed a sincere, dedicated interest and commitment to uplifting minority students on campus. A Black Rose recipient shares their knowledge with others and serves as a positive role model for young people of color in the community, thereby planting the seeds for others to mature into Black Roses of the future.
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. aims to enhance the quality of life within the community. Public service, leadership development, and education of youth are the hallmarks of the organization's programs and activities. Sigma Gamma Rho addresses concerns that impact society educationally, civically, and economically.
We, the Pi Xi Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. hopes the event will encourage the ALANA community at UMass and surrounding communities in promoting academic achievement and overall success of all students of color currently at the University, and those to come. We are hoping that by reaching out to alumni and honoring them for being committed to their respective communities and to UMass, they will continue their support of the University.
