Workshop With Book Who's Your Mama?

Are you a mama? Ever thought about becoming one? The Women of Color Leadership Network, Food For Thought Books Collective, and Everywoman’s Center will host a celebratory evening featuring contributors to Who's Your Mama? Come meet some of the contributors to Yvonne Bynoe’s newest anthology that centers on the perspectives of women from all cross-sections of society. Contributors to include: JLove Calderon, Marcella Runell Hall and Marla Teyolia, as well as local campus and community mamaz!

In preparation for the evening we are sending out a call to all women to create their own artistic response inspired by one of the pieces in "Who’s Your Mama?" Come join us and participate in an event that is inspired by you!

"Who's Your Mama?," (Soft Skull Press) centers on the perspectives of women from all cross-sections of society who are actively engaged in crafting identities and family structures (including remaining single and/or childless) that speak practically to their personal beliefs, intimate relationships, and socioeconomic realities. We are putting a call out to all community caregivers to submit a range of creative and artistic responses to this text. We want to hear about YOUR realities and provide a venue for their expression. What you need to do to contribute to the evening:

• Pick up the book at Food For Thought Books Collective. Tell the collective you are participating in the evenings’ call for campus and community contributors and you’ll get 10% off your book purchase. Or you can borrow a copy from the Jones Library in Amherst, the Women of Color Leadership Network, or Everywoman’s Center at UMass Amherst.

• Read. Read. Read.

• Select a piece that moves you the most. Create a creative response to this piece. This can be in any form: photography, collage, video, vocals, movement, prose and poetry are all welcome! Be as creative as you want! We only ask that you limit your response to 3-5 minutes.

Submission forms are available at Everywoman’s Center, the Jones Library, Women of Color Leadership Network, and online at foodforthoughtbooks.blogspot.com. Please submit your forms by October 15, 2009 at tanya@foodforthoughtbooks.com or (413) 253-5432.
