Spanish Cinema: "La Teta Asustada"
Spanish Cinema presents: "La Teta Asustada" (English: The Milk of Sorrow) a film directed by Claudia Llosa in 2009.
Between 1980 and 1992, Peru experienced a period of violence in the Andean region and in its capital, Lima, because of the uprising of Sendero Luminoso (Shining Path), a Maoist terrorist organization, and the actions of Peruvian armed forces and paramilitary anti-communist groups. Fausta is a young woman who lives in Manchay, a small village on the outskirts of Lima, and she suffers from an illness called "La teta asustada." According to Peruvian folk beliefs, this illness is transmitted through mother’s milk by women who have been violated or mistreated during the war of terrorism in Peru.
The film is in Spanish and in Quechua with Spanish subtitles. It is a drama and the runtime is 95 minutes. It won the 2009 Golden Bear award and FIPRESCI prize at the Berlin International Film Festival, as well as the Mayahuel award for best movie in the 24 Festival Internacional de Cine de Guadalajara in Mexico (2009).
The film will be introduced by Javier Venturi.
