Sankofa Dance Week: African Dance Class & Reception
Sankofa, part of an ongoing collaboration between the University's Department of Music and Dance and Division of Outreach, is bringing some of the biggest names in African dance, contemporary American dance, and clogging together for one week. To kick off the week, a free African dance class is being offered to the community, followed by a welcome reception.
Under the direction of Chuck Davis, the Sankofa Dance Intensive will bring over 50 participants of all ages and abilites to campus to study these roots and their progression from West African dance traditions through the plantation period to influences on contemporary, popular, and concert dance. There will be three evening lectures this week, culminating in a grand finale concert at the Fine Arts Center Concert Hall.
