Rays of Hope Golf Classic

The Rays of Hope Golf Classic benefits Rays of Hope. Please join us in our fight to assist those confronted by breast cancer.

The Rays of Hope Golf Classic honors Dr. Kathleen Arcaro, associate professor of Environmental Toxicology at UMass Amherst. In 2004, Dr. Kathleen Arcaro was awarded $12,000 by Rays of Hope to conduct research on the correlation between DNA damage in breast cells and toxicant levels in breast milk. Through her initial findings she was able to procure additional funding of over $890,000 from the Avon Foundation and the Department of Defense for further research focusing on the use of breast milk to assess breast cancer risk. She is currently conducting this research with the help of women throughout the United States. Most exciting is that her findings may lead to new early detection methods and new therapies for breast cancer.

Dr. Arcaro also conducted two other esearch projects in 2007 and 2008 with initial Rays of Hope funding; both of which have lead to promising findings and possible further funding and study.

"I'm very grateful to Rays of Hope who saw the value in this research and gave me the support for that critical first step", says Dr. Arcaro.
