Michael S. Roif Awards in Film Studies

The 2009 Michael S. Roif Awards in Film Studies are being presented to selected University of Massachusetts Amherst undergraduate Film Studies Certificate students who are being honored for their excellence and creativity in areas of film and video production, such as screenwriting, direction, production, and cinematography, or in cinema scholarship. The award is made possible by the Roif family's generous gift in memory of their son Michael (UM '83), who loved film and the arts.

The awards will be officially presented to the student filmmakers at a celebration for students, faculty, and the academic community. Screenings of the 1st and 2nd-place films will follow the presentation of the awards. A reception will conclude the event.

Professor Shawn Shimpach (Communication), a member of the Film Studies faculty and chair of the 2009 Selection committee for the Roif Award competition, will introduce the winners.

This event is free and open to the public.
