"Anne Frank: The Role of Secularism, Gender & 'Faith in Mankind' in the Making of an Icon"
The Department of Judaic and Near Eastern Studies presents the Posen Grant Lecture for Spring 2009. Dr. Corinne Ducey, Visiting Scholar at Brandeis University, will give a lecture entitled "Anne Frank: The Role of Secularism, Gender, and 'Faith in Mankind' in the Making of an Icon."
Dr. Ducey will speak about why Ann Frank has become a popular symbol of the Holocaust - including Frank's age, gender, and relatively secular religious orientation. Ann Frank's legacy will be examined in an international and comparative context, from the Soviet Union to the United States.
This lecture, presented by the Department of Judaic and Near Eastern Studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, is made possible by the Felix Posen Foundation Fellowship in Secular Judaism. The event is free, open to the public, and handicapped accessible.
