Life Outside the Cardboard Box: Making a Living in the Arts

"Life Outside the Cardboard Box: Making a Living in the Arts" is a new 7-part lecture series starting on Tuesday, March 24.

The opening lecture, presented by Dee Boyle-Clapp (MFA '88) of the Arts Extension Service, explores ideas to help emerging artists find or create jobs, raise their profile, build their resume, and consider alternatives that will help them meet their goals.

The future lectures, offered on Tuesdays through April, include the School of Management's Jim Theroux on risk and reward in business, Boyle-Clapp on finding the money and marketing, and Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts on copyright and legal issues. The final event, an alumni panel discussion titled "If I Knew Then What I Know Now...," will be held on Friday, May 8. All events will be held at the same time and location.

The lectures are free and open to artists of all disciplines to explore opportunities to help artists build successful careers in their chosen field.

For those who might be unable to make it to the UMass campus, we will also be experimenting with streaming the lectures live online: click here.
