This roundtable discussion on Black Women & Black Power will feature Cheryl Clarke of Rutgers University, Andrea Rushing of Amherst College, and Dayo Gore and Yemisi Jimoh of UMass. The event will be moderated by Daphne Lamothe of Smith College.
The roundtable is part of a series of events focusing on the art and politics of the 1960s and 1970s. Commonly referred to as the Black Arts Movement and the Black Power Movement, the period saw an upsurge in African American activism and artistic production. This roundtable will spotlight the experiences of Black women during the period and explore the questions and contributions they made during this pivotal time.
This event is cosponsored by the W.E.B. Du Bois Department of Afro American Studies at UMass Amherst and the Department of Afro American Studies at Smith College, and is generously supported by the College of Humanities & Fine Arts at UMass Amherst.
