Lecture: Malaria Epidemics in Western Kenya Highlands
Dr. Guiyan Yan will describe his efforts to develop novel and cost-effective malaria control methods. Contemporary molecular biology techniques, geographic information system/remote sensing technologies, and spatial statistical analyses are integrated into his research program at the University of California Irvine.
Dr. Guiyan Yan is a world-class scientist studying malaria and the mosquitoes that transmit the parasite that is responsible for three million deaths annually and renders as many as a half a billion people too sick to work. Dr. Yan is also interested in evolutionary biology, a pertinent topic during the 150th anniversary of Charles Darwin's publication of the origin of species. Dr. Yan studies the evolution of host resistance to parasitism.
