Course: Pre-Award Administration Series

This course provides core competency training in pre-award research administration. Areas that will be covered include education on policies, governing regulations (such as OMB A-21), budget building, campus procedures, regulatory compliance, subcontracts, and electronic submission systems.

Session I, titled "Information On UMass Spons. Activity," will be held on Wednesday, April 1. It will cover:
• What OGCA is, and its role in sponsored activity
• The governing rules of the proposal process
• The flow chart for the proposal process
• How to interpret the sponsor guidelines

Session II, titled "Starting Your Proposal," will be held on Wednesday, April 8. It will cover:
• How to implement sponsor guidelines in a proposal
• The Internal Processing form and its function
• Proposal components
• Regulatory compliance issues
• Procedures for subcontracting

Session III, titled "Budgeting Sponsored Activity," will be held on Wednesday, April 15. It will cover:
• Budget building
• Tools for building budgets
• Cost sharing
• Time and effort commitments
