Rules of Law and Laws of Rule in the Contemporary Middle East
Professor David Mednicoff presents his research as part of the Center for Public Policy and Administration's 2008-2009 Faculty Colloquium Series.
David Mednicoff is Assistant Professor of Legal Studies and Public Policy at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He holds an A.B. from Princeton (high honors) and a J.D. (honors) and Ph.D. (political science) from Harvard. Professor Mednicoff's expertise and numerous published articles are in contemporary Middle Eastern politics, globalization, international law and human rights activism, connections among authoritarianism, democracy and public international law, humanitarian intervention and US foreign policy in the Middle East. The winner of many grants and teaching awards, he is currently completing two books, the first on the endurance of monarchies in contemporary global politics, and the second on the rule of law, democratization and US foreign policy in Arab societies. Professor Mednicoff was a Fulbright Senior Scholar in law in Qatar in 2006-7, where he taught at Qatar University. He speaks six Western and Middle Eastern languages, including Arabic and Hebrew.
