Lecture: The Future of Science is... Art
Commonwealth College and BDIC will host a lecture featuring Jonah Lehrer, author of the recent Proust was a Neuroscientist, a book that details the foreshadowing of discoveries by modern neuroscience in the writings and creative works of individuals such as author Marcel Proust, poet Walt Whitman, chef Auguste Escoffier, artist Paul Cezanne, and composer Igor Stravinski. This lecture is titled "The Future of Science is... Art: or what we can learn about the brain from a 19th century French chef and rap artist Kanye West."
A scientist by training and a humanist by avocation, the former Rhodes Scholar and current editor at large for SEED magazine makes a compelling case that new visions can sometimes be found in unusual places and that innovation is fostered by interdisciplinary communication.
