University of Massachusetts Amherst

Colloquial on Alternatives to 12-Steps Approach

This activity will be a shame/guilt-free informative chat about all of the non-12-steps alternative self-help groups available throughout the United States in face-to-face meetings or online, helping people in becoming independent from harmful behaviors or activities. It will serve as the kick-off event to present SMART® Recovery weekly meetings on campus.

Those that are concerned about their loved one's use of substances, or those who feel that occasional binges get on the way of their academic goals, or those who feel compelled to engage in activities that seem to be taking control of their lives are encouraged to come.

This activity will be followed by weekly self-help group meetings on Wednesdays, at the same time (7:00 p.m.) and in the same room (the Shirley Graham Du Bois Library, on the second floor of the New Africa House). The moderator will be Lili Landrau, student from University Without Walls UMass and SMART Recovery volunteer meeting facilitator.

The activities are limited to UMass students, staff, and members of their family.
