7th Annual Freeman Lecture: Larry Solan, "Law, Language and the Modular Mind"
The Department of Linguistics, together with the Department of Philosophy and the Law & Society Initiative of the Department of Legal Studies, presents a lecture by Professor Larry Solan, titled "Law, Language and the Modular Mind." Larry Solan, Don Forchelli Professor of Law and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Brooklyn Law School, directs the Brooklyn Law School's Center for the Study of Law, Language and Cognition. Professor Solan is the author of "Speaking of Crime: The Language of Criminal Justice" (with Peter Tiersma) (2005) and "The Language of Judges" (1993). Professor Solan received his Ph.D. in Linguistics from UMass Amherst in 1978. This will be the 7th Annual Donald C. and Margaret H. Freeman Lecture, honoring founders and continuing supporters of the UMass Amherst Department of Linguistics.
