RAICES Week...Coming Out of the Shadows: Latin American Women Tell Herstory

Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority Inc.

RAICES week is a sorority-wide event that is put on by each chapter of our organization. Hermanas across the U.S. conduct various events and community service projects at their respective campus and within their local community. Chapters carry out a series of events that focuses on cultural enrichment, women's issues, community service and scholarship, which revolve around the sorority’s yearly theme.

This year's theme is Coming Out of the Shadows: Latin American Women Tell Herstory

September 28, 2008-October 4, 2008

All events will be hosted in the Latin American Cultural Center (right above the Pita Pit in Southwest)

Events are as follow:

Sunday 9/28- Cinema with the Señoritas-Movie Night

Monday 9/29-Modern Day Exploitation of Women: Discussion about Ciudad Juarez and Genocide of Women.

Wednesday 10/1-"If Men Could Menstruate"

Join us in a reading and discussion on the short essay written by Gloria Steinem.

Thursday 10/2-Girl Talk: My Body, My Health

Fun, interactive discussion on how our culture and families affect the way we learn and take care of our bodies and our health. Game: "Name that Body Part!" Prize for the winner.

Saturday 10/4-Community Service TBA

All events will be hosted in the Latin American Cultural Center (right above the Pita Pit in Southwest)

All throughout the week, during our events we will giving away bookmarks with a special poem, in celebration of this year's theme and for our Philanthropy, which is Literacy.
