Lecture: Conservative Intellectual Star Parker
Do you think that government welfare programs and expanded access to abortions help the poor? Think again.
Come hear conservative intellectual Star Parker speak at UMass Amherst about the role of the welfare state and its impact on poor Americans. Ms. Parker, a former unemployed mother on welfare, is currently a syndicated columnist, president of the Coalition on Urban Renewal and Education, and the author of, "White Ghetto : How Middle Class America Reflects Inner City Decay" (2006), "Uncle Sam's Plantation: How Big Government Enslaves America's Poor and What We Can Do About It" (2003) and, "Pimps, Whores and Welfare Brats: From Welfare Cheat to Conservative Messenger" (1998).
The UMass Amherst Republican Club (UMRC) supports hosting speakers and events which challenge commonly-held assumptions about politics, economics, and race on the UMass Amherst campus and nationwide. Regardless of your political affiliations, the UMRC sincerely appreciates students and faculty members who are not afraid to hear and carefully consider opposing viewpoints before forming their own opinions.
By hosting intellectuals such as Ms. Parker, whose thinking is not in accordance with mainstream academic thought, the Club hopes to contribute to a marketplace of ideas that is too often stifled by professors, politicians, and demagogues.
