Cello Concert: Nicholas Gold
UMass Amherst student and cellist Nicholas Gold will perform with pianist Olga Gaybaryan at Sweeney Concert Hall on the campus Smith College.
The program was designed to include three of the most beloved works in the repertoire: Seregi Rachmaninoff’s “Sonata for Cello and Piano, Op. 119,” Robert Schumann’s “Fantasiestucke, Op. 73, for Cello and Piano” and Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Seven Variations of the Theme ‘Bei Mannerr. Welche Liebe Fuhlen’ from Mozart’s Die Zauberflote”(The Magic Flute).
Gold and Gaybaryan are both residents of Western Massachusetts whose lives have intersected in several ways without their knowledge. They were recently introduced to each other by Gaybaryan’s husband, Andranik, who is a well-known violin maker and luthier who works at Stamell Stringed Instruments in Amherst. Gold, finishing his junior year in the Department of Music and Dance, also works at Stamell. It turns out that both performers have also taught at the Northampton Community Music Center.
Gold said, “Both Olga and I would like to invite the Western Massachusetts locals and visitors to our concert. We are looking forward to sharing the virtuosic and romantic music of Rachmaninoff, Schumann and Beethoven with the community.”
