Triggering Change: Hip-Hop, Media Justice & Social Responsibility
TRGGR Media Group in association with the Black Graduate Student Organization at UMass, the Black Student Union, Student Government Association, Black Mass Communications Project, Sport Management department, WMUA 91.1 FM, Student Bridges, the Center for Educational Policy Analysis, the Graduate Employee Organization, Hip-Hop Collective at Hampshire College, and Food for Thought Books present Triggering Change: Hip-Hop, Media Justice & Social Responsibility.
This conference will put nationally recognized scholars, artists, activists and intellectuals in conversation with students and the local community about the political mission of hip hop culture. This conference will engage youth in the area to think critically about media practices nationally and globally.
Featured guests Rosa Clemente, Davey D, Jared Ball, David Stovall, Toni Blackman, Cherise Cheney, Jorge Fabel Pabon, Conscious Women Rock the Page, and many others will discuss such topics as independent media, race and hip hop, political organizing among youth of color, sexuality in hip hop, and hip hop aesthetics, among other subjects that may arise in the course of discussion.
