STATE REP. SWAN TO DISCUSS LEGISLATURE’S TIES WITH UNIVERSITY

Faculty and staff panel to consider community outreach in national context

State Rep. Benjamin Swan (D-Springfield) is scheduled to address the university’s Faculty Senate at its next meeting, Thursday, April 24. Swan will discuss the workings of the legislature relative to the university and will be available to answer questions.

The senate also will hear from a panel, moderated by Vice Provost for Outreach Sharon Fross, which will discuss the “Scholarship of Engagement,” a look at how universities and their communities benefit from one another through outreach. The panel is comprised of Jack Ahern, professor of Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning, David Glassberg, professor of History, and John Reiff, director of Community Service Learning at Commonwealth College, members of the University Service, Public Service and Outreach Council.

In other business, the senate will consider whether to approve a “Professional MS Degree” within the Wildlife and Fisheries Conservation Graduate Program.
