Winter Soldier: Iraq and Afghanistan, Eyewitness Accounts of the Occupations

Local veterans of the occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan will speak about their experiences at Winter Solider as well as share personal testimonies. Segments of Winter Soldier: Iraq and Afghanistan 2008 will also be shown.

It is vital that the public hear what has gone on overseas. Most of the public thinks that the war was a mistake and has gone on long enough. However, many feel they have not heard enough in the media to get a true sense of the matter. This is an opportunity for people to hear from veterans and to see testimony about events that are taking place and have not been covered up.

Most people have heard incidents where civilians are killed or injured by mistake, but there are other incidents that even embedded journalists are not seeing and reporting.

Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) are a group of over 900 veterans trying to bring the war to an end. We are reaching out to the public to make a difference and bring our troops home. IVAW also advocates making reparations to the Iraqi people for destroying their country and full benefits (both mental and physical) to all returning veterans.

From March 13-16, 2008 at the National Labor College outside of Washington, D.C., veterans from across the country stood up to share their experiences at Winter Soldier 2008: Iraq and Afghanistan. Their stories showed the human consequences of failed policy.

If you truly care about the state of affairs in our country and our veterans please come and listen.

The event has been named Winter Soldier to honor a similar gathering 30 years ago of veterans of the Vietnam War. Winter soldiers, according to founding father Thomas Paine, are the people who stand up for the soul of their country, even in its darkest hours.

Iraq Veterans Against the War was founded in 2004 to give those who have served in the military since September 11, 2001 a way to come together and speak out against an unjust, illegal and unwinnable war. Today, IVAW has over 900 members in 48 states, Washington, D.C. and Canada and on military bases overseas.
