Three Artists. Three Exhibitions. One Grand Opening.

Hampden Studio Gallery Proudly Presents:

DEBORAH GARNER - A solo exhibition of new works on paper in monoprint. Includes collage and mixed media, as well as paintings in oil and watercolor. Imagery is sourced from the realm of dreams and personal excursions in the nocturnal stream of consciousness.

"All that we see or seem, is but a dream within a dream" - Edgar Allen Poe

"Recent image-making explores my own psyche, the Collective Unconscious, and the serendipitous merger of the ineffable with ink and paper. The images invite the viewer to enter these ephemeral worlds by imaginative projection; to animate them with their own thoughts and feelings, and to perhaps catch a glimpse of a reality they were formerly unaware of. With attention, these works become portals, narratives of the inner life... perpetually flowing from the subliminal Mindspring that we all share."

A lifelong student of world culture, dealer in tribal and folk art, and independent researcher in cross-cultural symbolism, Garner's travels in the physical world often re-emerge as "almost" familiar settings in the dream world. The resulting images produce what the artist likes to call "postcards from the edge of consciousness".

Deborah Garner is a self-taught artist, exhibiting regionally and abroad. She is self-represented and work can be seen by appointment and at: www.deborahgarnercollection.com.

Hampden Main Gallery Proudly Presents:

ALICIA HUNSICKER '93 – A Visual artist, Alicia lives and maintains her studio in Western Massachusetts. In her exhibit titled “Between The Darkness and The Light” Alicia presents a new body of oil paintings.

Hunsicker's work is self-reflective. Through her choice of subject matter, she explores the dualities of existence, particularly the integration between the shadow and light. In this new work, she considers the concept of pendulum, and the relationship of being and perceiving (the veils of perception).

Hunsicker, known for her rich palette and highly-detailed, symbolic figurative paintings, currently has work at Gallery in the Woods, Brattleboro, VT. Over the past decade, she has actively shown her work throughout the New England and more recently in Berlin, Germany, and Cameroon, West Africa. To find out more about the artist and her work

Hampden Incubator Project Space proudly presents:

LAURA “LOLA” BALTZELL - Represented by DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park Corporate Program in Lincoln, Ma. Laura is also a member of Cambridge Art association, Atlantic Works Gallery (East Boston) and Windham Gallery in Brattleboro, VT. She is an active participant in the Cambridge Art Association in the Sales and Rental program and shows frequently at both Cambridge Art Association and Atlantic Works. She is a new member at Windham Art Gallery.

Her new exhibit is an exploration in mixed media collage. Laura has previously worked primarily with oils which lends themselves to the multiple transparent layers that make up her surfaces. That technique is extended into her new collage work, to which she adds ephemera, both text and images. Her work and the title of the exhibition refers to the bright promises of childhood which may or may not have been realized; spirituality; coming to terms with a haunting parental legacy; an acknowledgement of life's lack of roadmaps and pre-set patterns to follow.

Laura "Lola" Baltzell is a long-term yogini who started her yoga life in 1993. She currently teaches prenatal yoga. She is a self-taught artist. Art-making and yoga are intertwined and inform one an other other.
