Afro-Colombian Visions: Short Films from the Pacific Coast

An evening of short films from the Colombian Pacific, one of the most culturally rich zones of the African diaspora in the Americas: De Barrio En Barrio (From Barrio to Barrio), a music video set in Aguablanca, home to Cali’s largest black population; Viaje a Tambores, the journey of the Afro Pacific group La Experiencia to a music festival; Este Pueblo Necesita un Muerto (This Town Needs a Death), the story of Stephanie, a black transvestite in the historic Afro-American region El Choco; and Corte Americano (American Haircut), which follows three black hairdressers who cut hair in the American style in the Aguablanca district. All films will be U.S. premieres.
