Rally for Public Decency
The Radical Student Union (RSU) is displaying overtly offensive pornographic posters in their office in 413A Student Union here at UMass. The posters detail two men having oral sex and fondling each other's genitalia.
This is a clear-cut violation of the UMass Sexual Harassment Policy, which states the following as an example of sexual harassment: "display of pictures, posters or cartoons that a reasonable person would find offensive or sexually suggestive."
Complaints about the posters have been pouring into my office for over a week, presumably from "Rational People".
The posters are displayed in an office directly above the Cape Code Lounge, where childcare sessions and programs are conducted every night, resulting in children as young as 3 and 4 years old roaming the Student Union accompanied by teenagers. Would you want your child viewing pornography openly displayed in a public building?
The UMass Republican Club is willing to do what the Umass Administration is afraid to do - STAND UP AND SPEAK OUT FOR PUBLIC DECENCY.
Join us for this important rally this Thursday, February 21 at noon on the Student Union steps facing the library. We need your support in order to express the rational notion that displaying pornography on state property in the view of children is shockingly offensive and will NOT be tolerated. The Radical Student Union and the UMass Administration should be ashamed for propagating such lewdness.
