6th Annual Freeman Lecture: Geoff Nunberg, "What Words Can Teach"
Geoff Nunberg, best known for his witty political commentaries on NPR and his most recent book, Talking Right: How Conservatives Turned Liberalism into a Tax-Raising, Latte-Drinking, Sushi-Eating, Volvo-Driving, New York Times-reading, Body-Piercing, Hollywood-Loving, Left-Wing Freak Show (PublicAffairs, July 2006), will make a special appearance at UMass Amherst at the invitation of the Department of Linguistics. Prof. Nunberg, School of Information, UC Berkeley, will give a public lecture on the origin and development of words and their relation to social and political concepts. This will be the 6th Annual Freeman lecture, honoring Donald C. and Margaret H. Freeman, founders and continuing supporters of the UMass Amherst Linguistics Department.
