Shotokan Karate Club First Training
Start something new this year! Join the Umass Shotokan Karate Club in our new student orientation session #1. You will have a chance to get to meet the club members and our instructor, Sensei John Nunez (5th Dan JKA/ISKF), and begin learning basic blocking, striking, and kicking techniques.
Karate is a martial art requiring focus, spirit, and great effort, but it also is for everyone. The only way to truly gain understanding is through training, so the best way to begin on that path is to come and find out for yourself what karate and the club are all about! You will find our club welcoming and encouraging and we hope to see many new students this year. You will find lots of support at every level.
Please arrive to training early. Suggested attire is a gi (karate uniform) or loose fitting sweat pants and a t-shirt. Expect to sweat!
If you are joining us from another martial art or non-JKA/ISKF Shotokan club, please wear a white belt to the first training, and be sure to speak with an instructor regarding past experience.
