Exhibit: Naturally Beautiful: Photographs by Suzanne Bell

The Integrated Sciences and Engineering Library at UMass Amherst will host “Naturally Beautiful: Photographs by Suzanne Bell,” from September 5, 2007, through December 31, 2007, in the Integrated Sciences and Engineering Library in the Lederle Graduate Research Center Lowrise on Floor 2.

“Naturally Beautiful” consists of photographs inspired by the artist’s surroundings when traveling or spending quiet days at home. The exhibit features Suzanne Bell’s observations of the natural world reflected in images of backyard birds, mountains, beaches, and national parks. “Often during a vacation, I rise before sunrise to catch the early morning light.” says Bell, “I try to see patterns and shadows when taking photographs.”

Suzanne Bell grew up in Shrewsbury, MA, and has lived in Whately, MA for the last 26 years. She began taking photographs as a child. While she started with a 35mm film camera, she now uses a Canon 20D digital. Bell is a 22-year employee of UMass Amherst and currently works in the Music Reserve Lab in the Fine Arts Center. Her husband, Andy Bell, is also an artist and photographer, and runs the Deerfield Gallery, a frame shop in South Deerfield, MA.

Prints are available for sale. The artist will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Library.
