Lecture: Julius Lester
Julius Lester will speak on “The Place Of Books In Our Lives” in the University Gallery, produced by Bookstores 10, a collaboration of independent booksellers in the Pioneer Valley, as part of Books Out Loud Week and the Museums10 BookMarks: A Celebration of the Art of the Book.
Lester, is author of On Writing for Children and Other People, Lovesong: On Becoming a Jew, The Autobiography of God, Cupid: A Novel, Time’s Memory, Day of Tears: A Novel in Dialogue, among many others suitable for children and adults. He is a retired professor in the Judaic and Near Eastern Studies Department, and was an adjunct professor of History. He has been honored with all three of the university’s most prestigious faculty awards: The Distinguished Teacher’s Award, the Faculty Fellowship Award for Distinguished Research and Scholarship, and the Chancellor’s Medal, the university’s highest honor. For ten years, he served as lay religious leader of Beth El Synagogue in St. Johnsbury, Vermont.
