2nd Annual Durfee Conservatory Benefit Concert

Durfee will host its 2nd Annual Benefit Concert in the Durfee Japanese Gardens. There will be many local bands and DJ’s to entertain and engage everyone with lots of different kinds of music. Along with the great local talent, the UMass alumni blue grass and rock group, The Chicken Stand Throw Down Band, is coming from New York City to galvanize the night with their infectiously rocking tunes. Situated at the base of the Central residential area on the UMass campus, for those lucky enough to have discovered them, are The Durfee Conservatory and Gardens. Since 1867, Durfee Conservatory has remained a fundamental and irreplaceable piece of the UMass community. It is a haven of beautiful

flowers, warm sunlight, secluded benches, Zen gardens, sparkling carp, friendly faces in all seasons, and two delightful, playful kittens. Visitors are always welcome, and whenever you choose to visit, you will find Durfee to be a uniquely wonderful place and a refreshing change of pace.

Last year, Durfee’s budget was seriously cut. In response to an overwhelming need for more private fundraising, Armand Prevost, Durfee’s interim director, and Sam Krentzman, a junior Chinese Language and Literature major, worked with many other volunteers to create the 1st Annual Durfee Conservatory Benefit Concert. The concert, held in the Durfee Japanese Gardens and featuring Busted Vacuum, DJ Nondeskript from WMUA, Baker Baby Makers, and Death Ampetamine, was a resounding success. The UMass community came out to have fun and support its very own Garden of Eden.

This year, Armand and Sam are once again organizing the Durfee Benefit Concert. The concert has a suggested donation of $5 per person. In case of rain, the program will be rescheduled for Setember 30th. Bring a sweater, some food and a picnic blanket, and stay for the whole evening. There will also be some local vendors.
