Jazz in July: "Close Encounters of the Jazz Kind"

Jazz in July (July 9 - July 20) brings together talented amateur musicians to train with some of the industry's most respected artists for two weeks of intensive study in jazz improvisation every summer - and live performance, open to the public, is an integral part of the program mix.

The Jazz in July Lecture and Performance Series is a unique opportunity for jazz fans, students and teachers to connect with the music and musicians who teach and perform at Jazz in July each summer. Every lecture/performance/demonstration features one or more faculty artists expanding on his or her insights and approaches to topics within the broader scope of what is jazz.

In "Close Encounters Of The Jazz Kind," bassist Chip Jackson lectures about coming to close to playing with several jazz greats, and why it DIDN’T happen! It’s a lecture about career choices that includes the music of those jazz pioneers.
