A Celebration of Writing: A Journey in Words

The Writing Program is proud to announce its second annual “Celebration of Writing” event. The day long celebration will include recognition of selected essays for this year’s Student Anthology and winners of the Best Essay Awards in College Writing 111 and 112 and Junior Year Writing will be acknowledged for their excellence. Between awards and recognition ceremonies, students will be reading their essays and presenting various projects from Experimental Writing classes and Junior Year writing, to name a few. The Program’s keynote speaker for this year will be a former UMass faculty member, Julius Lester, a professor emeritus. Professor Lester has been a recipient of multiple prestigious faculty awards, published 41 books and over two hundred essays, recorded two albums, and hosted radio and TV shows in New York. His photographs were part of an exhibition for the Smithsonian Institution. Please come for the awards and lecture, stay for the readings and food, and celebrate in this day of writing festivities and student achievements.
