Film: Independent Media in a Time of War
This film is a speech by Amy Goodman, host of Democracy Now!
Illustrated by clips of mainstream media interspersed with rare footage of Iraq made by independent reporters, Goodman argues that dialogue is vital to a healthy democracy. She explains why it's important to the democratic process that independent media agents go find stories in those places where mainstream media silence prevails. The purpose of media is to go beyond telling the official story; its purpose also is "to present the diverse voices of people engaged in dissent."
