jubilat/Jones Poetry Reading

The historic Jones Library and jubilat, the nationally acclaimed literary journal housed at the University of Massachusetts, are pleased to continue the jubilat/Jones Reading Series with a reading by poets Michael Earl Craig and Cathy Park Hong. The reading will be followed by a Q & A session with the poets. All events are free & open to the public.

Michael Earl Craig is the author of Yes, Master and Can You Relax in My House, both published by Fence Books, as well as an e-chapbook, Touch My Omelet, published by Bear Parade. His poems have appeared in numerous literary journals and have been anthologized in Verse Press's Isn't It Romantic: 100 Love Poems by Younger American Poets. He was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio and educated at the Universities of Montana and Massachusetts. He currently lives near Livingston, Montana where he works as a farrier.

Cathy Park Hong is the author of Dance Dance Revolution, which was chosen for the Barnard New Women Poets Prize. Her first book, Translating Mo'um, (Hanging Loose) won a Van Lier Fellowship and a Pushcart Prize. She is the recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship, a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, and a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship. Her writing on politics and her reviews have appeared in the Village Voice, the Guardian, Salon, Christian Science Monitor, and New York Times Magazine. Her poetry has appeared in the Columbia Journal, Field, McSweeny's and Mudfish.

This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Jones Library, jubilat, & the Juniper Initiative of the UMass MFA Program for Poets & Writers, the Series introduces new voices to the community & showcases area poets. Each reading features two poets, bringing into dynamic dialogue some of the most exciting established & emerging poets writing today. This program is also supported in part by a grant from the Amherst Cultural Council, a local agency, which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
