Film: The Wind That Shakes The Barley

The School of Education is proud to sponsor the area premier showing of The Wind That Shakes The Barley, directed by Ken Loach. This film won the prestigious Palm D’Or award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2006.

With beautiful cinematography, Loach’s film is a gritty, realistic, and unvarnished depiction of the IRA’s fight for Irish independence and its subsequent tragic aftermath, the Irish Civil War.

Professor William Matthews, who has lectured both in the U.S. and in Ireland on this period of Irish history, will provide an introduction to the events and characters depicted in the film. Following the film there will be an opportunity for questions and discussion.

Prior to the film there will be a traditional Irish seisuin (music).

This event is free and open to the university community and to the public.
