Understanding Financial Aid
Do you wish that you had a more thorough understanding of financial aid, especially if you work with youth who see you as source of information about college? Do you feel confident in your ability to describe the difference between the EFC, subsidized /unsubsidized/alternative loans, grants, work study, and unmet need? What do you do if a student needs to fill out a FAFSA form, but is not living with his/her legal parents/guardians? What is the best approach to conceptually explaining the FAFSA and different types of financial aid?
Please join us for a brief presentation and Q&A with Sheila Konieczny, the Associate Director of UMass Financial Aid Services and a Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority Ambassador (MEFA).
Light refreshments will be provided by People's Market. Note that this forum is geared toward current UMass students participating in community outreach, tutoring/mentoring, and college access activities, yet all members of the public are highly encouraged to attend.
